Leave it to Disney to take a beautiful real life story about such an inspiring creature of the wild and dumb it down to a bland, one-sided kids movie that never digs deep enough into the real story. It does have well-designed sets though that give a strong sense of these animals‘ living conditions, and the film overall can be really fun for small kids, and cute for parents. But that can’t save The One and Only Ivan, as the talking animal shtick it takes on to entertain the kids is instantly forgettable as these characters are as uninspired as they come. Oh, and the little girl casted to play the human who inspired Ivan to take up drawing is just AWFUL!
