It’s just like any other bland inspiring movie about a real person overcoming a disability, right down to the creative liberties it abuses to try and make the hero look even better. In addition, Father Stu suffers further from its filming style, which is composed entirely of rushed editing and jerky cinematography that will make you want to throw up. As emotional as Stuart Long’s journey may be with all the ups and downs, the message still isn’t handled well because all the characters around Stu are just there to motivate him rather than to be characters in their own right.
